It’s needless to say that Beyoncé is one of the most influential artists of our generation. Her newest music video, Formation, proves just this – it’s full of powerful images, with an even more powerful message. Beyoncé pays a lot of homage to the black South and many of the forgotten people that have been shoved aside by society today. I think what makes this song, and the video, so incredible is that there are no qualms about what this video about: celebrating black identity, and pushing on in the Black Lives Matter movement. Beyoncé does not skirt around the issue — it’s not a side note tagged on to another catchy hit; it unapologetically takes center stage. If you’ve ever questioned how art has the power to incite change, take a moment and get in Formation.
