With our recent assignment addressing the concept of Invisible Cities and how to represent those spaces, I’ve been finding myself drawn to the concrete. Attached is a video link that shows a man (although sped up) capturing the New York City skyline in just two minutes. This project took artist Pat Vale about a month to set up and execute but watching the piece come to life was absolutely mesmerizing. New York City is truly a mecca of activity and in virtually every way I see so many of the cities Calvino wrote about come to life in that space. As we all proceed to plow ahead with our different and unique projects, I found Vale’s representation refreshing, honest, and powerful. One of my favorites.
