Chinese artist Cao Hui brings fantastically disturbing sculptures to the contemporary art scene. I’m positive that his recent work is a social commentary on the use of animals in products (for which we already have synthetic substitutes). These works may be a way to start a conversation about consumer culture.
Or maybe he just loves to make these uncomfortably detailed pieces to see the reactions they get.
Contrary to what the graphic detail would suggest, no living material was used in any of his sculptures. It’s all resin.
