For a recent project, artist Van De Roer, who is a cofounder of Satellite Lab, decided that he wanted to use high-speed camera technology to create still, interactive portraits of changing light. The cameras he uses are set to the same timers as his lights, and so whenever the camera takes a new frame, the light changes slightly. In such a short period of time, it’s almost impossible to show the significant movement of anything but light. And so, the results are these beautiful, interactive light-show portraits.
