Artist Tadao Cern’s art installation “Black Balloons” represents the marriage of light and heavy, art and science, planning and spontaneity.
Cern filled balloons with light and heavy gases – sulfur hexafluoride and helium, and arranged them in many different ways, always with the two balloons to float opposed to each other. What began as playful experimentation quickly grew into a full-blown exhibition. Despite the simplicity of the installation, its ability to interact with and be interpreted by the viewer make it powerful.
